1979-1982 Mustang

1979 was to become a vital year in Mustang history... The launch of the fox bodied Mustang. This new platform, initially designed for the Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr was extremely strong and light weight. In addition Ford designers spent countless hours in the wind tunnel shaping the new body. It was to be the most aerodynamic and efficient Mustang built to date. The two body styles available were the coupe (4 door) and hatchback (5 door). Upgrade packages included the GT for performance minded buyers and the Ghia for those looking for some creature comforts.

Another huge milestone occurred in 1982 with the reintroduction of the 5.0L V8 power plant. The term "5.0" was quickly adopted by enthusiasts as the powerful combination of a V8 and light weight chassis created a force to be reckoned with on the street. The Mustang was back as a true performance car at last!
