1987-1993 Mustang Coupe

All Mustang Coupes made in this time period were made in the FOX platform. These models look more angular and hard edged compared to models to follow that received a more smooth and silky look to them. These FOX mustangs received a major update for the year of 1987.

All Mustang Coupes got aerodynamic headlights while the GT’s were equipped with air scoops just in front of each wheel and also had taillight covers known as "cheese graters". There were few changes to the Mustang the following year as the 1987 and 1988 models were practically twins. The next significant revisions to the Mustang body style didn't happen until 1993, when because of sagging sales Ford offered a Limited Edition model.

Ford also formed the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in 1991 to produce high performance vehicles. Out of this program Ford created the 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra which resulted in a gain of ten more horsepower and better handling. Later in the year they offered a race-ready Cobra R. The R had no rear seat, air conditioner, or sound deadening material. This kept weight down to improve on performance. The Cobra R featured black wheels with chrome hubcaps. These were limited production models with approximately 107 made.
