1987-1993 Mustang Convertible

1987-1993 Mustang Convertibles By 1987 Ford was earning more money then General Motors. Part of the reason why it was doing so well is because of the Mustang. However what most people do not realize is that the Mustang was almost the Ford Probe. Thanks to the public being outraged by this Ford wisely chose to go with the Fox style instead. Despite a familiar basic shape, the convertible Mustang looked slicker than ever for '87.

There were only two changes to the 1988 convertible and coupe Mustang. The convertible LX’s received a higher capacity battery. These improvements barely changed anything as Convertible sales remained strong. Among one of the few changes on the 1989 convertible Mustangs was the addition of power windows. Announced in January 1990 Ford came out with the special edition LX 5.0L convertible of which 3600-3800 were built. It featured color-keyed body side moldings, GT aluminum wheels, white convertible top, and a white leather interior. Buy 1992 sales started to fall rapidly all the way to the bottom which left Ford nothing else to do rather then go up. Surprising almost every automotive expert sale drastically improved to 114,228. Most people did not know how this happened since the 1993 model was almost the exact same thing as the year before it.
