1983-1986 Mustang Coupe

1983-1986 Mustang Coupe In 1984 when it was celebrating its 20th anniversary two new models of Mustangs were manufactured.  These two models were the SVO and the 20th anniversary GT 350. The GT was available in either a hatchback or convertible and people could also decide between turbocharged four-cylinders or the 5.0 HO.

Also in 1984 introduced the first Saleen Mustang. The 1984 model would feature aerodynamic body panels and racing suspension components, but Saleen would begin adding engine modifications in following years. The next following year the Mustang Coupe had a new and cleaner front fascia. The egg-crate front grille was also replaced by a nose that more closely resembled the clean look of the Mustang SVO.  It also gained 30 horsepower going from 175 to 205 horsepower making many people happy to have more power in their vehicle. The SVO headlights changed to be instead of recessed being flushed with many corner lights. 1986 would mark the last year of the SVO's three-year run. 1986 was the first year of the third brake light on Mustang Coupes. There was controversy with Shelby as Shelby did not approve of the package, since he had sold the rights to the "Cobra" name. So Ford agreed to never use the name again after the first 5,260 cars were built.
