1971-1973 Mustang Sportsroof for sale

"Car and Driver" magazine may have grumbled about the poor visibility from the nearly flat rear window of the 1971-73 SportsRoof, but that didn't stop the public from buying them. Fastbacks in 1971 made up 40% of total sales at just over 60,000 units. But sales of the big Mustang in general were falling and 1972 and 1973 fastback sales were down to 43,000 and 46,000 respectively.

Part of the reason for the large percentage of fastbacks were the packages that Ford offered. The Mach 1 was a time tested name for Ford and in 1971 it featured racing mirrors, front and rear spoilers, E70 whitewall tires, body stripes, blackout hood and quick-release hood pins. For performance buyers could get a Boss 351 with Ram Air hood and a 351 good for 330 hp. Some performance tests actually showed the Boss 351 as quicker then the other big block offering for 1971, the 429 CJ. It could be ordered in Ram Air or non-Ram Air versions and touted a healthy 370 hp. Unfortunately the Boss 351 and 429 CJ were dropped after 1971.
