1965 & 1966 Mustang Fastback

The mid-year introduction of the Ford Mustang in 1964 included two body styles; coupe and convertible. In 1965 as it started it's first full production year, the fastback was added. This sporty, fast looking new body type was called the "2+2" and featured special fender emblems identifying it as such.

Customer choice was key to the Mustang success and there were several engines & transmissions to chose from. Starting with the small, but reliable 170 cid (1964 1/2) & 200 cid (1965-66) six cylinder as the base, you could quickly add some horses under the hood with a range of V8 engines. The 260 cid for 1964 1/2 was straight out of the Falcon, but you could also get the venerable 289 cid in three versions; the C code 2 bbl, the A code 4 bbl or the legendary 289 K code 4 bbl with 271 advertised horsepower.
